10,000 Beads makes the old new again, giving jewellery and décor a beautiful second life. Every bracelet, necklace, brooch and set of earrings is one-of-a-kind, re-purposed and hand re-created by designer Gwynneth Nelson. When dismantling used jewellery, there are usually some beads that are not appropriate for the ladies jewellery. These beads are used to make up beading necklace kits for preschool and elementary aged children. Custom orders and jewellery repairs are also available. In addition to unique, upcycled jewellery, 10,000 Beads also makes whimsical miniature artificial Christmas trees for the holiday season, using re-purposed and recycled goods and materials. Each tree comes with a convenient, handled storage box for easy transport and storage. Also available in winter are locally-grown, hand-picked and dried herbs.

There are many advantages to shopping locally, says 10,000 Beads owner Gwynneth Nelson. Small, boutique-style stores and businesses listen to their customers and bring in the kinds of products and services that locals want, something big-box stores can't do. Owners of independent small businesses take a personal interest in their customers' needs and are quick to rectify problems. There is always parking, often right outside the front door. And, Gwynneth says, Williams Lake business owners and their staff " always have a friendly smile and time to chat a bit." These things also make doing business a pleasure in Williams Lake. Plus, notes Gwynneth, business owners support one another's efforts rather than competing and really try to encourage each other.
Gwynneth has always had a crafty side, and retirement brought with it the time to do more of the crafty things that she enjoyed, like making and re-purposing jewellery. Her work caught the eye of a friend who told Gwynneth she ought to consider selling some of her work. Now she has a business to keep her busy in her retirement. "I love being creative, and it is a wonderful feeling when others get pleasure out of what I do. I love the making and marketing aspect of my business. I have met so many wonderful people while marketing my craft," she states.
Besides having a wonderfully diverse business community, Gwynneth points out that Williams Lake is also a very giving community. "Look at all the volunteer organizations there are in town and the great things that they all are doing, "she says. Everyone works hard to keep Williams Lake looking beautiful and providing assistance in many different forms for those who need it. And when you want to get away, it only takes a few minutes to get out of town and get into the great outdoors.
