Meet Andrea Stalker
Andrea Stalker, a dental hygienist by trade, has always had a bit of an addiction to handcrafts. She's done all kinds of different artsy things over the years, but only got serious about sewing a few years ago while living in Mackenzie, BC. She began designing and sewing accessories like handbags, cross-body bags, pouches, headbands and keychains.
A mom of young children, Andrea was looking for a career opportunity that would allow for more flexibility to work around her family's needs. After moving to Williams Lake in 2014, she purchased a children's belt business business, and today she makes fun-yet-practical children's belts in addition to accessories. "I love that I am able to be able to earn an income doing something that I am passionate about," says Andrea. Plus, being new to the community, having her own business has given her lots of opportunities to meet people and connect with other moms and families. Andrea currently runs her business out of her home where she sells her products online through her Doonbug Designs Etsy shop. She also does local craft fairs and will be appearing in and around the Cariboo in the coming months.
Andrea and her family love the outdoors, and moving to Williams Lake has given them a whole new outdoor playground to explore. They especially enjoy going hiking ("There's hiking right out our front door, literally!" says Andrea) and fishing together. A fitness fan, Andrea also uses her down time to do yoga and go running. She has even done a couple of half-marathons.
