Station House Gallery & Gift Shop

Arts-Community Services & Organizations-Education

The Station House Gallery and Gift Shop is an integral part of the arts culture in Williams Lake as well as the community in general. Housed in the historic BC Rail station building, the Station House Gallery and Gift Shop showcases a diverse selection of artistic works in a variety of mediums in its two main galleries and in a shop that showcases the handwork of local artisans. Exhibits rotate monthly and highlight some of Canada’s most talented rising artists. Cultural education also plays a vital role in the life of the gallery. The gallery hosts tours for school and other groups and features regular after school and summer programs for youth.

The Station House Gallery and Gift Shop is a member of the Williams Lake Chamber of Commerce.

Meet Diane Toop, Executive Director & The Station House Studio & Gallery Society

The Station House Gallery and Gift Shop began as a grassroots movement by local arts supporters. Their desire was to promote local artists and artisans in the Williams Lake community and to provide arts education. They formed the Station House Studio and Gallery Society in 1981. Preserving the old BC Rail station house fit into the group's mandate and would provide the group with the necessary space to accomplish their goal, so they took over the building and renovated it. The main floor gallery and gift shop opened in 1982 and the upstairs gallery debuted in 1983.

Over the years the society and the gallery have grown and today the gallery has several employees, including Diane Toop, the Gallery Manager. Diane has a passion for art and loves to share that with gallery visitors. "We are always thrilled to see how surprised first time visitors are with the quality of our exhibits and gift shop," says Diane. She makes it a point to get to know a bit about visitors, something that is easy to do in a friendly town like Williams Lake, so that she is able to provide a more personalized and interactive guest experience.

Diane, the staff and the board of directors are proud of the gallery and its reputation for exhibiting and selling quality artwork and crafts. "We love the Station House building and that we have been able to keep going strong for over 33 years... an achievement for a cultural non-profit organization!" Diane declares.
