Meet Cindy Watt & Brenda Bourdon

Sisters Cindy Watt and Brenda Bourdon are the grand-daughters of Tony Woodland whose name has been a fixture in the community for decades. He was one of the town's early residents, and he opened its first jewellery store. In the beginning the business was only a watch repair shop in a leased space in what was Mackenzie's Hardware store. After WW II his son Ralph became a partner and they expanded purchasing their own premises. When Tony retired Ralph once again expanded his business to its present location adding jewellery repairs and appraisal services to the business.

Fast forward 46 years, and today the store is being operated by Cindy and Brenda, who consider it an honour to be carrying on not just a family tradition, but a tradition within Williams Lake. Brenda and Cindy's family also has a long history of community involvement, particularly with the Stampede Association and the Cariboo Memorial Hospital. Every year since 2009 Woodland Jewellers has raffled off a custom, one-of-a kind, gold and diamond ring designed by Geoff Bourdon, a 4th generation family member. All of the proceeds from the raffles have been donated to the hospital to purchase new equipment. "The continuity of the business is very important to us as we are proud of the role our family and the business have made in building a better community through donations, sponsorships and volunteering," says Brenda.

Neither Cindy nor Brenda would trade small town life for city living, and their hearts definitely belong to Williams Lake. They have other family members here who work with them in the store including Geoff Bourdon a Graduate Jeweller/Goldsmith who designs and hand fabricates beautiful custom jewellery and Kevin, Brenda’s husband, who manages the maintenance and rental of the building. Both Cindy and Brenda agree that they love the beauty of the area and the fresh air, which they try to take in whenever they have time. They like to hike, ski, kayak and take walks in the river valley. Above all, they appreciate the friendly, genuine people who live here, and that a casual pace of life allows them to get to know those people easily. "You actually know your customers so you really do get to share in the special moments in their lives," says Cindy.
