Meet Angela Sommer
According to Angela Sommer, musicians aren’t made overnight, but rather are motivated by some influence that sparks a desire to play or perform. For Angela, it was one of the first times she ever sang into a microphone when she was six years old in an old German church. She developed a voracious appetite for music that lead her to pursue piano and vocal training and, eventually, musical performance. As she grew up, she went on to perform in five different European countries.
Angela immigrated to Canada from Germany as an adult where she continued to sing and perform casually while pursuing a diploma program at BCIT. After graduating, she worked in the aircraft manufacturing industry for several years until the birth of her first child. But when she became a mom, she wanted a career that was more flexible and conducive to raising a family, so she returned to her “first love,” music. She continued performing while teaching young students the joys of music, much the way she remembers being taught as a child. Today, Angela has students of all ages, and she is continually amazed to watch her students grow and blossom in their proficiency in and love of music and performing.
Angela appreciates her community of 150 Mile House and Williams Lake, both as a wonderful place to raise a family and for the full life it has given her. She notes that for a small town, Williams Lake has an extraordinarily strong and talented arts community with many opportunities for artists of all types to express their creativity.
Innovative. Fresh. Empowering.
